SCOTLAND THE BRAVE

Scotland is well known around the world for its many ghostly castles, its spectacular landscapes, its excellent malt whisky and the hospitality of its people. Travel with us and you will have the opportunity to know the places and the traditional culture that have forged the character and idiosyncrasy of the Scottish people through the centuries.

We will visit Edinburgh, the beautiful Scottish capital, whose streets are steeped in history. It was known as ‘The Athens of the North’ in the XVIII century and it was designated as World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1995. We will then hear the incredible story of William Wallace and Stirling Castle, continuing towards the majestic Glencoe and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. We will admire the great beauty of the Isle of Skye, Loch Coruisk and the peaks of the famous Cuillin Mountains. We will also visit the iconic Loch Ness and continue to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. We will explore the spectacular Glamis Castle, and its ghostly stories. We will walk through the old streets of St Andrews before heading back to Edinburgh.

Day 1: Guided Tour of Edinburgh Old Town

This morning we will visit the most iconic spots of the beautiful Scottish capital. We will walk down the famous Royal Mile which joins Edinburgh Castle with  Holyrood Palace. The narrow winding streets of the Old City will tell us about the dark events that took place inside and outside its walls. We will continue walking to Calton Hill to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.

Day 2: Edinburgh – Stirling Castle – Glencoe – Fort William – Glenfinnan Monument – Arisaig

Today, we will head to the historic town of Stirling to visit its famous castle, the former court of the Stuart kings. Located in one of Scotland’s oldest cities, this castle offers a magnificent view of the Stirling Valley, strategically dominating all directions. Under its ramparts took place some of the most important battles in Scottish history, such as the Battle of Bannockburn and the Battle of Stirling Bridge. We will continue our journey towards the famous valley of Glencoe and Fort William, travelling at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. We will then explore Glenfinnan Monument, located on the magnificent shores of Loch Shiel, near the viaduct of the same name that became very famous after appearing in the Harry Potter movies. Finally, we will spend the night in Arisaig, near some of the finest beaches on the West Coast of Scotland.

Day 3: Arisaig – Isle of Skye (Elgol / Loch Coruisk / Fairy Pools)

Today we will discover some of the beautiful beaches of Arisaig, before boarding the ferry that will take us to the fabulous Isle of Skye, a magical place where legend and tradition blend with the legendary hospitality of its inhabitants. Once there, we will travel following our cultural tour of Scotland to the picturesque fishing village of Elgol, from which we will be able to contemplate unforgettable panoramic views of the Cuillin Mountains. From here we will take a pleasant boat ride to visit Loch Coruisk, a spectacular lake that is actually the crater of an ancient extinct volcano, most of which is submerged under water. We will sleep tonight in the heart of Skye, beneath the Cuillin Mountains and next to the impressive Fairy Pools.

Day 4: Skye – Eilean Donan Castle – Loch Ness (Urquhart Castle) – Inverness

We will continue our cultural tour in Scotland to discover Plockton, one of the jewels of the Highlands, a picturesque fishing village situated in a small bay. We will then explore Eilean Donan Castle, undoubtedly one of the most photographed castles in the country, strategically located at the beautiful confluence of three fjords and known for appearing in the 1986 film “Highlander”. The famous and emblematic Loch Ness will be our next destination on this fantastic cultural tour that we offer you in Scotland. We will visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle on its shore and its exceptional visitor centre. In the afternoon we will arrive in Inverness – the capital of the Highlands, where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Inverness – Culloden – Loch an Eilein (Cairngorms National Park) – Whisky Distillery – Pitlochry

This morning we will walk around the battlefield of Culloden, the infamous place where the last battle in British history took place on April 17, 1746, a battle that ended the Jacobite dream. We will also visit one of the many whisky distilleries in the area, where we will learn about the process of creating this legendary drink known as “uisge-beatha”, which in Gaelic means ‘the water of life’. Loch an Eilein, which is located within the immense Cairngorms National Park, will be our next destination. As its Gaelic name indicates, this is a lake with an island inside it, an island that contains the ruins of a small castle. It is surrounded by a beautiful forest whose trees are home to different types of birds, such as the woodpecker or the peregrine falcon. It is, without a doubt, the most picturesque lake in Scotland. We will spend the night in Pitlochry, a picturesque town built in the Victorian era around the first tourism boom that developed in Scotland.

Day 6: Pitlochry – Dunkeld – Glamis Castle – St Andrews – Edinburgh

Glamis Castle is without a doubt one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland. The ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore, it had illustrious residents like Queen Elizabeth of England, who spent part of her childhood there. In addition, it is said that this castle is the most haunted of Scotland. The Royal Borough or City of St Andrews is traditionally known as the birthplace of modern golf, but this town is much more than that. Discover its old university, it religious connections and its beautiful beaches. We will return to Edinburgh where we will end this unforgettable and amazing cultural trip to Scotland, an extraordinary and unique country.
